Holy smokes folks. This was Ike as it prepared to barrel onto the Texas coast. It was a force to be reckoned with. NO joke. Inland 90 miles from Houston, we got our fair share from this storm. Sustained winds were around 30-40 mph with gusts of upwards to 65-75 here in town. Fortunately we all made it. We were on the east side of the storm. Winds died down around 1-2:00 pm today but we still had squalls of storms that came through as late as 6-7:00 pm. It is quiet now. The birds have begun to chirp again. That's how you know it's going to be a bad storm. The birds leave. Seriously. Mark had to work yesterday afternoon and evening but got the heck out of dodge by midnight. It started to pick up here around 4:00 am all though we had been experience sustained winds between 10-20 all day Friday. We had a sort of a slumber party downstairs last night, in the event of tornadoes. Thank God we were spared. In fact I don't think this storm threw nearly as many tornadoes as they had feared it would. Of course it has consumed our lives for the past two days. I am very grateful that we sustained everything with minimal damage. We've had a small leaking issues and our smoke detectors went off today during the heart of the storm. We had to unplug several of them but I believe that CO set them off since the doors had not been opened in HOURS. We have one that is waterlogged and will need to be replaced. Otherwise, I think they will all be alright.
So, that's it on Hurricane Ike at this point.
